ARC has been helping students achieve success in learning since 1982. Marcy Sirkin purchased the clinic in 1996. Due to a growing demand, a second location was opened in North Asheville in 2004. In 2013, Marcy sold the South office location to focus on her exploding North office location and be closer to her farm and her family. Marcy holds a B.A. in Special Education, an M.A. in Exceptional Education, an M.S. in Family Therapy, and a Ph.D. in Family Psychology. In addition, Marcy holds her advanced training in Orton-Gillingham.

At ARC we provide specialized educational assistance to students of all ages. To reach a student with a learning difference we use research-based teaching methods to tap into individual strengths and “unlock” learning potential. We know that the yearly game of playing catch up to one’s classmates, coupled with the rollercoaster ride of ups and downs, is exhausting to both the student and the parent. When a child is provided with scientifically proven intervention, that ride can slow and even stop. Many classroom teachers lack the content and the depth of training needed to provide appropriate instruction for each individual student.

The bridge to all learning begins with one’s ability to read and comprehend text. Literacy instruction is a complicated task (Sally Shaywitz, Overcoming Dyslexia, 2003). We acknowledge the professional demands of teaching reading and provide training to prepare our tutors for the challenging task of teaching our students to read. The brain can be rewired, leading to the development of primary, automatic reading systems, and struggling readers can become skilled readers (Proust and the Squid by Maryanne Wolf, 2008.). We know that it is of utmost importance that the intensity and frequency of instruction, content of instruction, and skill of the teacher, be consistent with the seriousness of the learning challenge. We are ready to help pave your child’s journey to success. Now is the time to build the bridge between achievement and potential.
